Never leave a Google review unanswered

A single unanswered negative Google review can cost you dozens of customers. Potential diners check your reviews before they decide where to eat, and a wall of unanswered complaints signals neglect. But responding to every review takes time that restaurant owners simply do not have — especially when you receive ten reviews a week across different sentiment levels. Ordresto's AI review module solves this by generating intelligent, personalised replies automatically.

Why Google reviews matter more than you think

Google reviews are the most visible form of social proof for local businesses. When someone searches for 'best pizza near me' or 'Thai restaurant delivery', Google shows review scores prominently in the map pack and search results. Restaurants with higher scores and more recent reviews consistently rank above competitors. But it is not just the star rating that matters — Google's algorithm also considers the frequency and quality of the business's responses.

A restaurant that responds to every review — positive and negative — signals active management and customer care. Google rewards this engagement with better local search visibility. Conversely, a restaurant with dozens of unanswered reviews appears abandoned, regardless of the food quality. The review reply is not just customer service; it is an SEO signal.

AI replies that actually sound human

Generic 'thank you for your review' responses do more harm than good. Customers and Google's algorithm can both tell when a reply is a template. Ordresto's AI generates replies that reference the specific content of each review and incorporate your restaurant's real context.

For a five-star review that praises your signature lamb tagine, the AI might reply: 'Thank you so much! The lamb tagine is one of our chef's favourite dishes — we slow-cook it for four hours with preserved lemons and Moroccan spices. We would love to see you again next time you are craving North African flavours.' This level of specificity is only possible because the AI has access to your full menu, your restaurant description, your opening hours and your current promotions.

For negative reviews, the AI adopts a different tone: empathetic, professional and solution-oriented. It acknowledges the issue, apologises without being defensive and offers a concrete next step — such as inviting the customer to contact you directly to resolve the matter. You can customise the AI's personality, formality level and language to match your brand voice.

Auto-publish or manual approval — your choice

If you are comfortable with the AI's reply quality after a few days of reviewing its suggestions, you can enable auto-publish mode. In this mode, the AI generates and publishes replies to new reviews within minutes of them appearing — no human intervention required. This is the 'set it and forget it' approach.

If you prefer to maintain editorial control, the default mode stores AI-generated replies as suggestions. You see each suggestion in your dashboard, can edit it, approve it or write your own replacement. Pending reviews are highlighted so nothing falls through the cracks.

A hybrid approach is also common: auto-publish for four- and five-star reviews (which are typically straightforward), and manual approval for three stars and below (which may require a more nuanced response).

Review analytics — track your reputation over time

The Google reviews section of your dashboard includes an analytics panel that shows your average rating trend over time, the distribution of star ratings (how many 1-star vs 5-star reviews), your average response time and your reply rate. These metrics help you understand whether your reputation is improving and where to focus your attention.

Email notifications alert you to new reviews in real time. You can configure notifications for all reviews or only for negative ones (1–2 stars), so you can prioritise urgent cases without being overwhelmed by every five-star compliment.

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI know what to say in its replies?

The AI is given your restaurant's full public context: menu items and descriptions, opening hours, delivery zones, current promotions, services offered and your custom instructions. It uses this data to generate specific, relevant replies rather than generic responses.

Can the AI respond in multiple languages?

Yes. The AI detects the language of each review and responds in the same language. It supports 11 languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Arabic and more.

Will customers know the reply was written by AI?

The replies are designed to sound natural and human. They reference specific details from the review and your restaurant. In testing, customers consistently cannot distinguish AI-generated replies from human-written ones.

What if I disagree with an AI-generated reply?

In manual approval mode, you can edit or rewrite any reply before publishing. In auto-publish mode, you can still edit or delete a reply after it has been published.

Is this feature available on the free plan?

Google review management is available on the Boost and Apex plans. The free Starter plan does not include Google Business Profile integration.
